PSICE Model for a Coaxial Cable in High Frequency Domain Submitted to a Longitudinal Temperature Gradient Using Kelvin-Bessel Asymptotic Functions

چکیده
This paper investigates on the propagation in a coaxial cable with the assumption that the distributed parameters are variable with the longitudinal distance from the source due to a linear temperature variation. This work addresses the problem of propagation in borehole conditions where the temperature varies by approximately 3°C/100m. In addition to the temperature variation along the coax we have considered the high frequency domain where the skin effect is severe and leading to very high losses. Unlike the uniform temperature distribution study this case is very complex and that is the reason why we have provided a model for PSPICE simulator to represent the cascaded cells because the analytic solution is extremely tedious to solve. The idea is thus to replace the coax cable by cascaded elements whose resistance and impedance are calculated via Kelvin-Bessel functions. Because the number of cells is huge we have written a C language program to generate automatically the PSPICE .CIR file. Each cell has its own resistance and inductance according to its temperature. The capacity is assumed to be constant along the coax for each cell. Besides the PSPICE program, and for comparison, we have developed a recursive method for computing the attenuation due to the whole cascaded cells. The comparison between PSPICE and the recursive method has shown results in very good agreement. Keywords— PSPICE Model, Skin Effect, Coaxial Cable, Temperature Gradient, Asymptotic Expansions

Closed Form of the Elementary Coaxial Cable Parameters in a Longitudinal Thermal Perturbation in Combination with the Skin Effect
An Analytical calculation of the primary parameters, resistance and inductance especially, has been established in the case where both the skin effect and the linearly varying temperature along the coaxial transmission line are taken into account. The mathematical formulations are derived by first calculating the total resistance and inductance of the coaxial cable conductors within which the e...

Methods for calculating the internal impedance of round wires are investigated. 'Exact' calculation using Kelvin Bessel functions runs into difficulties at radio frequencies due to rounding errors in computer floating-point arithmetic. Specialist techniques (such as the use of high-precision BCD arithmetic) could be used to circumvent this problem; but for general modelling, the use of approxim...

Laboratory and field experiments have shown that dispersivity is one of the key parameters in contaminant transport in porous media and varies with elapsed time. This time-dependence can be shown using a time-variable dispersivity function. The advantage of this function as opposed to constant dispersivity is that it has at least two coefficients that increase the accuracy of the dispersivity p...

Coaxial couplers with high input RF power, usually operated at 500 MHz, are one of the critical components used in accelerators. To withstand high RF power, the couplers should be tested first, under identical conditions in a test stand. A waveguide coupled to a coaxial cable is used for this purpose. The parameter that indicates the amount of returned power loss is S11. By optimizing the dimen...
